Introducing Globalista
Globalista was set up in 2007 by passionate and experienced global travellers, Olivia Koerfer and John Gordon together with freelance travel editor Daisy Finer. Tired of the surplus of information which makes choosing the "right" hotels and restaurants such a hit and miss affair, they decided to create a company which could become the single reliable source of luxury travel information for discerning travellers, offering trusted recommendations in the same way a friend would. To this purpose, the website was launched in January 2009.

Why Globalista?
The most trusted travel recommendations usually come from a close friend who's already been there but which of your friends knows the city inside out? You may forget what was recommended, buy a hefty guidebook when all the information you wanted is covered in only a few pages. Perhaps you resort to emailing the concierge of the hotel you've booked for their restaurant recommendations or if you've got time to spare, you might even research online, painstakingly sifting through the masses of good and bad content out there.
However great these sources of information may be, there's simply too much choice to feel confident you have selected the right three or four restaurants, whether your taste is for Michelin stars or the best authentic trattoria. So why choose Globalista?
Globalista bypasses all of the time-consuming research required before that beach holiday or city break and in one report, lists out the best of the best, from luxury hotels and restaurants, to shops and museums. We don't only cover the obvious choices but also include hidden gems and insider recommendations on cities, ski resorts and regions throughout Europe and beyond; from Damascus to Svalbard, Kabul to Kyrgyzstan, Houston to Whistler. Already covering over 190 destinations, in the next year Globalista will cover a further 200 cities and regions. You can also search by holiday type so whether you're looking for a beach holiday, a short city break or even a potential honeymoon spot just type it into the search bar.
Each report is:
- Written by our knowledgeable writers so that you have instant access to insider tips and can go off the beaten track to experience each destination like a local.
- Regularly updated so that it is always accurate.
- Divided into clear sections – as well as finest luxury hotels and restaurants, our reports detail the best shopping, best culture, best escape, best reads and best sensation, as well as a 'what to avoid' section.
- Accompanied by an online mapping tool for all featured hotels and restaurants; great for helping you get around.
- Available as a printable PDF.

How each Report is Compiled
Our Globalista Reports have been written by some of the best travel writers out there, many of whom have lived (or still live) in the destinations about which they've written. Tokyo resident Danielle Demetriou has written the guide to Japan's amazing capital city; Kabul has been written by Matthew Leeming, author of the only guide book to Afghanistan.
The benefits of a resident writer's input include instant access to insider travel tips, enabling each reader to go off the beaten track and experience each destination like a resident. You'll come away from New York, Provence, or Buenos Aires feeling like you've got under the skin of the place, rather than simply been privy to a tourist's overview.
Once the report has been completed, we send it out to our consultants and several specialists who are asked to comment on each recommendation. So what we've said about each and every hotel and restaurant featured has been crosschecked and corroborated.
We also tell you what the guidebooks and newspaper travel sections have to say about our recommended hotels and restaurants. And because we believe that no amount of prose can ultimately give you the feel of a hotel or restaurant, all of our recommendations come with an extensive number of photographs.
