The Wickannish Inn at Tofino on Vancouver Island (see Globalista guide) is THE place to stay if you're going to Tofino. And you really must go to Tofino. The beach there particularly when it's sunny is one of the most beautiful in the world. You can walk for miles watching the surf buffeting the shore and it's awesome.

Savannah is a town that can be enjoyed over several days, or over years as John Behrendt did, but in just 24 hours you can still experience the pleasures of the city especially if you concentrate on walking around the residential area with its magnificent live oaks.
Globalista has a guide to Charleston but in the light of this trip we will be updating our recommendations.

One of our favourite Globalista correspondents Simon Lowe is just back from California. Here's his itinerary from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Grenada, the Spice Island of the Caribbean, has had a chequered history since Christopher Columbus discovered her verdant shores in 1498. When Hurricane Ivan struck in 2004, it devastated 90% of the island's nutmeg and cocoa plantations, and destroyed homes. But influenced, perhaps, by its dual legacy of French savoir faire and British grit, Grenada has sprung back remarkably fast. Tourism and upmarket developments are on the rise, while the island’s friendly, laid-back atmosphere makes this one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean.

Vancouver is a city with a split personality. Backed by mountains and on the edge of the Pacific, with sandy beaches and hiking and biking trails, it's a place for nature-lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. On the other hand, it's a grungy multi-cultural destination with vibrant nightlife, chic boutiques and a restaurant scene. Neither architecturally stunning nor a place for lots of sightseeing, Vancouver's charms lie in its setting, the friendliness of the people, its laidback atmosphere and the ease with which you can escape into British Columbia.
Amangiri is possibly the most beautiful inland hotel in the world. A strong claim but from the moment you arrive, particularly if you have a room both overlooking and leading into the desert, you know you're somewhere very special.

Channel your inner Scarlett O'Hara in this beautifully preserved colonial city. The winding cobbled streets and antebellum mansions seem of another time, but this southern belle has a cosmopolitan side too, with cutting-edge boutiques and restaurants. Though its colonial past wasn't always pretty there has been a concerted effort to keep the traditions of the Gullah people (the local black population) alive. If you're not familiar with the American South, Charleston is an ideal place to start.
