The St Tropez Report

St Tropez, sun-drenched and pretty, is the world’s most famous coastal hotspot. It’s a small village with big yachts which was put on the map by Brigitte Bardot in the 1960s and has stayed there ever since. Some say it’s been ruined by bankers, beach clubs and billionaires, others say it’s the best place to party in the world. July and August are undeniably crowded, so if you’re not here to party then visit in May, June and September when it’s cooler, quieter and prettier than ever.

The Venice Report

A wonderland of canals, gondolas, palazzos and museums, we all know Venice to be a city of extraordinary beauty. Use our guide to steer you round centuries’ worth of magnificent art. Lose yourself exploring winding streets, or sit in a café and contemplate the majesty of a place where Casanova once lived. And don’t think it’s not yet time to revisit, for while the city remains unchanged it’s also in a state of flux with new hotels and restaurants injecting a well-needed dose of modernity.

The Amsterdam Report

Small, liberal, pretty, Amsterdam is a city to satisfy almost every agenda. Those in search of cobblestones, serious culture and canal views will be in heaven, design aficionados can explore one of the world’s design capitals for hip furniture and denizens of the party circuit won't be lacking for ways to fill the glamorous late-night hours. This affluent European city has a medieval heart, clean streets, and a refreshingly different attitude.

The London Restaurant Report

Background
In the early 21st century, London restaurants need no introduction. They are among the slickest, sexiest, most authentic, most diverse, most reasonably priced (trust us) and most expensive in the world. There’s something for everyone and somewhere for every mood. The only difficulty is choosing where to go.

The Méribel Report

Méribel is the most British of all resorts in the Alps. The now sprawling resort lies at the centre of the vast Trois Vallées ski area, which boasts 600km of pistes linking Courchevel, Val Thorens, La Tania, Les Menuires and St Martin-de-Belleville, making it the most convenient base from which to explore the slopes. The resort incorporates 14 villages, stretching up a steep, narrow valley from Méribel Village at 1400m to the top of Méribel Mottaret at 1800m.

The Brittany Report

Background
‘France is a foreign country: they do things differently there’ – it is hard not to tweak L P Hartley’s famous line from the Go-Between. It seems to sum up fierce, untamed Brittany. Once an independent kingdom, Bretons still seem to view France as a separate country and jealously defend their Celtic culture and traditions, even if their Breton language has all but disappeared....

Just back from Paris

We have been busy pre-Christmas updating the Paris Report and tried two newish hotels, both part of Oriental chains, which hadn't been properly reviewed before.

Driving to the South of France (with dog)

Many of us, particularly those with dogs, drive to the South of France each year. And every year we ponder where to stay en route as it’s an 11-12 hour drive from Calais to Nice/Cannes (2 hours less to Provence).
