Provence

A sun-drenched dreamscape of mountains, beaches, vineyards and postcard-perfect villages, Provence could easily claim to be heaven on earth. Stretching from Italy to Arles, from the coast to the mountains, Provence covers a vast and stunningly beautiful swathe of southern France. It has six departments, including the razzle-dazzle of Côte d'Azur, but Provence's heart is thought by many to lie further to the west in the rolling hills and lavender fields of Vaucluse and Bouches du Rhône. This is the light-filled Provence of Cezanne and Van Gogh, where Roman ruins lie next to 500-year-old châteaux surrounded by world-famous vineyards, sunflowers and olive groves. It's so pretty, it's no surprise that so many foreigners have moved there. Wild, stylish, romantic and always beautiful, Provence is just about perfect.
