South Africa Garden Route

Stretching along the Western Cape coastline, the Garden Route is one of South Africa’s most popular destinations and deservedly so. Breathtakingly beautiful, this lush region is home to idyllic sandy beaches, peaceful lakes, huge gorges, temperate forests and thick bush all offering a stark contrast to the country's arid interior. Sandwiched between the Indian Ocean and the Tsitsikamma and Outeniqua mountains, it’s a place for nature lovers, who flock here to go walking, whale watching, fishing, swimming and hiking while enjoying fantastic food and wines from world-class local vineyards.
While the Garden Route officially runs from Heidelberg to Port Elizabeth, most visitors will include Cape Town and Hermanus on their itineraries. And while you could drive the route in a (long) day, it’s much more pleasurable to take 4-5 days, stopping at must-see places such as chic seaside village Plettenberg Bay, lagoon town Knysna and whale-watching capital Hermanus.
