Vancouver

Vancouver is a city with a split personality. Backed by mountains and on the edge of the Pacific, with wide sandy beaches and miles of hiking and biking trails, it's a place for nature-lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. On the other hand, it's a grungy multi-cultural destination with neighbourhoods both high and low but also with vibrant nightlife, chic boutiques and an expanding restaurant scene. Neither an architecturally stunning city nor a place for lots of sightseeing, Vancouver's charms lie in its setting, the friendliness of the people, its laidback atmosphere and the ease with which you can escape into British Columbia. From surfing and whale watching on Vancouver Island to skiing in Whistler, the best of BC is within easy reach. The third most popular city for film-making in North America, this Hollywood of the North is much like the Hollywood of the South: short on culture and sightseeing but big on nature and atmosphere. You just need to know where to find it.
